The Pros and Cons of Wind Turbines – Home Wind Power Kits
I live in a rural station and there are plans for a wind turbine several miles from my home. I’d like to use green energy and on the surface wind turbines appear to be an edifying solution to the world’s pollution spot. We all use far too much energy and ought to attempt to slash our carbon foot prints.
I’ve been delving into the wind turbine question and have found that I wouldn’t be able to afford it. Presumably the mark will eventually be reduced as more people use wind energy but for now the cost is beyond me.
I was content to wait for a time that I can utilise this form of green energy, yet I’ve learned that there are many local people objecting to the plotted turbine. Some of them are even strenuously campaigning against it.
I was attractive as to why so I contacted a lady who’s at the forefront of one of campaigns. She informed me that though she’d been a keen supporter of wind turbines that she’d altered her conception after looking into them carefully.
A complaint about the one they’re going to erect is that it’ll be the size of Huge Ben and an eye sore in our otherwise gorgeous countryside. I wouldn’t allow this point to dissuade me though because we have to weigh up our priorities and reducing hurt to the earth comes first.
Noise is a very strong objection. Apparently a man lived near a turbine for years and he claims that the constant noise is unbearable. To my mind this is a more serious consideration because noise pollution can have serious psychological and thus eventually physiological effects.
She claims that local wild life will be disrupted. Small animals will not be able to live within a few miles of the site because of vibrations that go through the earth and grand of the indigenous vegetation will be removed. Yet supporters of the turbines claim that every several years they will be re-located and the areas allowed to re-establish the wild life and vegetation, so at least the hurt in each area won’t be permanent.
The assumption that power stations won’t be required is misleading because they will still have to be on stand-by in case the turbines aren’t producing enough energy. It isn’t a case of keeping them turned off and switching them on when in use because they must be running constantly. It takes a huge amount of power to start them up. Therefore power stations as we know them won’t be completely eliminated from the equation.
I find the last objection the most troubling. Birds get caught up in the revolving blades and are killed. I’m unaware of how many birds will be sacrificed in order for us to protect our planet but it’s an vital consideration.
Each individual will have to weigh up the information, perhaps after doing their own research on the subject. I now have my uncertainties but am of my fresh belief that wind turbines are one of the realistic solutions for our energy usage.
Nevertheless I’m inclined to research solar energy because it might be a better choice. This is also presently out of my price range but there are small solar energy kits available that can provide some energy and I intend to save up for one of those.
Whatever your opinion I urge you to consider that our planet must be the priority and that various forms of green energy, whatever the objections, are the only route we can take if we wish our children to inherit a planet that is able to sustain life.
