How to Build Your Own Solar Power Station – Power House Electrical Supply
If you reflect of saving energy and maybe collecting solar power to charge up some of your gadgets then this guide on building your own solar power station might be for you.
You’ll want to gather up some items for building your own solar power station project. You’ll need to start with a deep cycle battery that can be fully charged and discharged; a twelve volt should do fine. It should be rated at 75 amp hours.
Of course you’ll need a solar panel to gain your own solar power station. One that is rated at 5 watts will work and can be bought at a farm supply store.
You’ll need a 400 watt rated inverter so you can convert the battery power into AC power in your solar power station.
A toolbox could also come in handy to transport all the items you’ll be using; maybe one with wheels would be ideal. This is where you’ll be placing your solar power station.
The first thing to do is build a mount in the toolbox to maintain the battery. This is simple enough with some standard 2×4′s.
You will use a utility box for the wire connections. Remove three of the punch outs for connections in the utility box. The best ones would be the middle side punch out, the middle bottom one and the one on the extinguish.
Screw a compression fitting on one end to push the wires in that will go to the 12 volt plug.
Next you’ll want to chop a hole to install the power input plug for your solar power station. You will want to mount it so that the input plug inserts into utility box.
Slash a hole under the utility box. This hole is for the wires that will be running from the utility box to your battery.
Prepare the wires for soldering by crimping ring connectors to both certain and negative wires from the battery. The ring connector may need to shrink slightly to fit the wires but this can be done simply enough with a lighter.
The wires that you will need will usually come with the 12 volt travel. You can cut them the length needed for your solar power dwelling. The battery wires will go through the hole at the bottom of the utility box. Now you’ll solder everything together. You want to be careful that your wiring won’t small out so you can do this by using heat shrink tubing on the connections or even wrapping in electrical tape does the trick.
You don’t want the wires to your solar power station to pull out so tighten the compression fittings. If all the connections are made you can now screw the lid closed.
Drill holes and bolt the 12 volt power plug where you want to mount your solar power station.
To wire the inverter cut and strip the two wires to urge them from the inverter to the battery. You can crimp small ring connectors to the extinguish of all the wires when you have them connected.
Charge up your solar panel and then you will have finished building your very own solar power station. You can now conserve energy and catch power from the sun for free.
You can easily do your own solar power station with just a few simple items from the local hardware or farm supply house. Within a few small hours you can be charging your home gadgets free from electricity costs by using the power of the sun.
