BP Spill Breaks the Record for the Gulf’s Biggest Oil Spill – Bp Solar
This last Thursday the enormous BP oil spill became the highest according to the United States Government. The gush has now been going on for over two months and has spilled over one hundred million gallons of oil into the sea.
The current oil spill has overcome the previous Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. BP estimated that there were approximately 210,000 gallons leaking into the ocean daily. Scientists now are estimating that more than a million gallons are leaking daily.
President Obama has extended the moratorium on drilling, which has resulted in the subsequent halting of over 33 new wells, according to the Chicago Tribune. This is no relief to the fishing industry, which is struggling to survive and losing billions in potential revenue.
It is possible that BP will be fined per Gallon. This new record provides a shocking reminder that we are in hard times. The outcome of this event has already proven to be disastrous.
